• Argentine club giant, River Plate crashed out of the Copa Libertadores, suffering a heavy 5-2 defeat to Brazilian club Palmeiras. Gallardo’s team continues to struggle in the league as well with a loss to Deportivo Riestra at home over the weekend!
• Only one Argentine club out of the four got into this season’s Copa Libertadores Semis. It’s Racing Club de Avellaneda. Racing beat Velez Sarsfield 2-0 over the two legs. They will face Flamengo next.
• La Albiceleste’s front man, Julian Alvarez scored an impressive hat-trick against the Real Madrid. Diego Simeone’s side thrashed their city rival in an emphatic manner.
• Diego Placente’s U-20 team started their World Cup in Chile by beating Cuba by 3-1. Bayer Leverkusen man, Alejo Sarco, scored twice and the third goal came from River’s next wonder kid- Ian Subiabre.
• On the Argentine league, this week’s biggest match was the Avellaneda derby between Racing and Independiente. It ended as a scoreless draw!
